i havent been blogging for quite some time. in any case im very frustrated with lab, sch work, stupid mid-term tests, and the list goes on. like for yest lab, which btw, was by far the most taxing and difficult expt i have ever done. we were given an unknown binary compound, from which we have to determine whether they are basic, strongly acidic, weakly acidic or neutral. any of these 2. thereafter, we have to extract the 2 unknowns out of the bulk mixture, and use all sorts of crazy tests to find out their identities. damn stressful. the best part is, everybody can get any combinations of these 2, even if the combinations are the same, the unknowns are most likely not the same. and the expt spans over 3 weeks. so if i screwed up any part of the expt. im dead. wheeeeeee. so when i did the trial analysis to determine the nature of the unknowns, i was quite confident that i got it correct the first time round, since i got a very distinct ppt for one of the test tube. when i went to check my ans with the prof, i almost fainted when he told me my ans was wrong. OMG. i have to redo everything again! but thank goodness i got it correct the second time. must be some contamination during the first trial. argh! so yah, basically im constantly on high stress level throughout the entire day. and im super pissed off when the separating funnel that i put inside the oven to dry went missing after i went back to retrieve it. not once, but many many times. i got so fed up that i just grabbed other ppl's. and after extraction, my liquid unknown only had like slightly more than a teaspoon. cos my separating funnel kept leaking from the bottom. argh! i have already capped the flask and locked it inside my cabinet, hopefully it wont evaporate off, if not i wont have enough to do those silly tests. haiz. and so by the end of the lab, i only manage to extract my compounds, and get the boiling point of my liquid. i havent done my IR for both solid and liquid, and melting point for solid. i bet nobody can be even slower than me. haiz. i spent half the time queuing and waiting. and when it's about time for me to do the solid IR, the stupid computer hangs plus some probs with the scanning. then the prof came in to tell us that we have 10 mins to wash all our stuff, pack up and leave. and prior to that, the 3 KBr pellet that this person helped me to do all cmi. the first one broke, the second one was too thin, and the third one had sth wrong with it. seriously, how suay can i get? so basically i have wasted the 2 hours in the IR room. im so irritated right now. no matter what i must get my IR spectrum done before next mon's lab, cos i need to determine the kind of tests to perform for the functional group analysis next week. so which means i have to stayed back after sch on fri, provided that the lab is opened, and that the uncle lab tech is kind enough to teach me how to prepare the sample and use the program. oh until now i still dont know how to do it. yes i am that stupid. so i have to be mentally prepared to get suan by the lab tech. haiz. |
